AOR Benfotiamine is a naturally-occurring form of thiamin (vitamin B1). Benfotiamine's superior ability to penetrate cell membranes increases its bioavailability over conventional thiamin supplements. This allows for the use of benfotiamine to elicit all of the benefits of vitamin B1, such as the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and fat, in a highly efficient manner
Main applications as reported by literature:
• AGE inhibitor
• brain support
• thiamin deficiency
The Problem of AGEing
Benfotiamine is a natural form of thiamin (vitamin B1). Thiamin is an effective inhibitor of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). AGEs are produced by a detrimental chemical process in which proteins are damaged by sugar products. This damage results in deactivated enzymes, damaged DNA and unhealthy signaling in the body. Thiamin blocks the last and most important step of this process, when harmful sugar products are irreversibly converted into AGEs. Thiamin also activates an enzyme which helps the body shunt excess sugar products into a safer metabolic pathway.
A Break for Diabetics
Since AGEs are produced when there is an accumulation of sugar, it is an especially damaging process in diabetics. Benfotiamine has been shown to not only reduce AGE formation, but to protect tissue structure and function in diabetics, including nerve and kidney function. It also protects diabetic retinas from AGE damage.
Effective in the Body, Not Just in the Lab
Although thiamin is a powerful AGE-inhibitor, it is poorly absorbed by the body. Benfotiamine maintains thiamin's AGE benefits while being able to pass directly into cells. This makes it more bioavailable and less toxic than other thiamin supplements.
Some supplements are suitable for both men and women of all ages as well as children. But other supplements are specifically targeted to the aging woman or man. Another supplement is especially suitable for athletes, regardless of gender.

How to repel mosquitoesRarely have people been so upset about mosquitoes as in this past week: a plague of mosquitoes seems to have arrived in the Netherlands and most surrounding countries.
The reason it is possible to have so many blood thirsty mosquitoes swarm around us, is that mosquito eggs incubate in water puddles as small as a rain gutter, cavities on flat roofs, empty plant pots or pet bowls.
In 14 days or less when it is very warm, larvae become fully grown adults, of which the females start searching for blood. The combination of a semi-monsoon in June and sudden tropical heat in July caused a mosquito 'babyboom'.
