DIM + CDG 30 capsules - diindolylmethane + calcium D-glucarate | Jarrow Formulas
Jarrow Formulas DIM + CDG supports multiple detoxification pathways involved in healthy hormonal regulation. Calcium D-Glucarate (CDG) supports glucuronidation, which is an important pathway in detoxification.
D-glucarate is a naturally occurring compound that is produced by the body in small amounts and is also found in many fruits and vegetables. D-glucarate plays a very important role in the detoxification of toxins and carcinogens. One very important detoxification pathway in the body is the glucuronidation pathway. Through glucuronidation toxic substances, environmental carcinogens and even excess levels of estrogen are neutralized, and then eliminated from the body.
Unfortunately, this important detoxification process can be disrupted by the enzyme beta-glucuronidase, which acts to reactivate the neutralized toxins. Elevated levels of this enzyme have been associated with an increased incidence of breast, prostate and colon cancers. This is where D-glucarate comes in. The primary action of D-glucarate is to inhibit the enzyme beta-glucuronidase, thereby promoting detoxification.
Research has shown that D-glucarate can inhibit breast cancer development in mice by as much as 70%. Calcium-D-glucarate’s inhibition of beta-glucuronidase also allows the body to excrete estrogen before it is reabsorbed by the body. In this way D-glucarate can help to encourage healthy estrogen metabolism, and prevent elevated estrogen levels. D-glucarate has been shown to lower serum estrogen levels in rats by 23%. Preliminary studies in humans show that D-Glucarate supplements are safe, and have the same effects on beta-glucuronidase in people that they do in animals. Studies on D-glucarate supplements in women at risk for breast cancer are underway, and it has been suggested that D-glucarate may provide a safe, effective and side-effect free alternative to the drug tamoxifen.
DIM is a naturally occurring phytonutrient found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli. DIM has been shown to promote the formation of 2-hydroxylated estrogen metabolites instead of 16α-hydroxylated estrogen metabolites. This means that DIM helps to push the balance of estrogen in the body towards the production of “good” estrogens and reduces the production of “bad” estrogens. In cell culture studies DIM has powerful anti-cancer effects, and has been shown to stop breast and cervical cancer cell growth in vitro. It has also been shown to block the activation of genes that promote cancer cell growth while activating genes that help prevent cancer.
Human studies also show promising results. DIM is currently used to treat Recurring Respiratory Papillomatosis caused by the Human Papilloma Virus and is in Phase III clinical trials for Cervical Dysplasia. Cervical Dysplasia is a precancerous condition also caused by the Human Papilloma Virus, and is highly correlated to the development of cervical cancer. Preliminary open-label testing has shown that treatment with DIM successfully resolved moderate to severe cervical dysplasia.
BioResponse DIM® provides the cruciferous indole, Diindolylmethane (DIM), which is also involved in the liver's natural toxin elimination process. DIM + CDG supports healthy estrogen and testosterone balance in both women and men.
A growing body of research shows that Diindolylmethane (DIM) and Calcium D-Glucarate (CDG) can provide powerful, multi-pronged sup - port for: optimal detoxification, hormonal regulation, and healthy cel - lular replication.
While many products provide either DIM or CDG alone, Jarrow Formulas’ DIM + CDG provides a potent blend of these two important nutrients. The formula includes trademarked BioResponse DIM ® , the only microencap - sulated, bioavailable DIM formulation, plus patented CDG, which targets key enzymes of cellular waste elimination. Together, DIM and CDG work to promote enhanced detoxification and overall cellular health.
DIM + CDG: A Dynamic Detox Duo
DIM and CDG each play unique roles in supporting the body’s com - plex detoxification system, which primarily takes place in two phases. Phase I begins the process using Cytochrome P450 enzymes, and Phase II renders toxins ready for excretion.
DIM, found in the Brassica vegetables, including broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, was first identified as a result of research showing that diets high in these vegetables promoted health and wellness. Further studies found it promotes normal estrogen metabolism and stimulates antioxidant activity. Although DIM is produced from the combination of 2 indole-3-carbinol (I3C) molecules and facilitated by enzymes and gastric acid released during digestion, DIM supplementation is preferable to I3C in order to avoid the generation of undesirable breakdown products.
The addition of CDG, the patented calcium salt of D-Glucaric acid, further enhances the DIM + CDG formula. When the unique detoxification activity of CDG was first discovered, the nutrient was quickly patented by researchers for its important role in Phase II detoxification. Its indirect inhibition of the beta-glucuronidase enzyme, which prevents deconjugation of potential toxins and their re-release into the bloodstream, thereby protects the body from xenobiotics and other undesirable compounds.
Support for hormonal balance & estrogen metabolism
Elevated levels of sex hormones can lead to unwanted cellular changes. One of DIM’s most potent actions is the support of estrogen balance, both through selective binding to receptors and by acting as an estrogen antagonist. DIM favors a more desirable ratio of 2-OHE to 16alpha-OHE , and has been studied for its impressive role in supporting prostate health by reducing dihydrotestosterone binding to androgen receptors. DIM also promotes healthy mood and libido in women by supporting the maintenance of testosterone in its free and active form
Promotion of healthy cell division & replication
Studies have also repeatedly shown DIM to modulate and support normal cell replication in a variety of tissues. DIM encourages normal cell division in breast cells, prostate, colon, cervical, and pancreatic cells. DIM also plays a positive role in regulating gene expression, protein production, and healthy cell growth by down-regulating unwanted proteins and up-regulating protective proteins.
Promotion of hormonal balance
Like DIM, CDG is unique in its ability to balance individual hormonal fluctuations and remove excess estrogens, reintroduced by both beta-glucuronidase and diet . As a result, CDG promotes lifestyle comfort, mood, and cerebrovascular and cardio metabolic health. In one study, high dose CDG modulated estrogen levels by 23% and reduced beta-glucuronidase activity by 50%, significantly supporting a healthy blood estradiol concentration. In a known AMC Center study on cellular health, CDG supplementation led to a 48% reduction in estrogen receptors, promoting cellular health.
Supports normal cell replication and division
As has been found with DIM, studies have found CDG to support maintenance of normal cell division and replication. Benefits of CDG have been found in colon, prostate, lung, liver, skin and breast models. Dietary D-Glucarate also balances and supports biomarkers of inflammation within a normal range.
Supports healthy lipid balance
CDG has also been shown to support healthy lipid metabolism. Through its actions on beta-glucuronidase and intestinal bacterial activity, CDG enhances enterohepatic circulation and modulates cholesterol synthesis. In animal studies, CDG has been shown to significantly promote maintenance of blood fats within normal range, an effect attributed to enhanced enterohepatic circulation, and a resulting increased excretion of bile acids.
Jarrow Formulas’ DIM + CDG provides the highest quality, most bioavailable forms of DIM and CDG for optimal detoxification, natural hormonal balance and overall cellular health. Together, these two key nutrients work in synergy to offer potent support for key pathways in the liver’s detoxification process and balance for hormonal health in both women and men. In light of these powerful biological activities, DIM + CDG provides a full spectrum, optimal solution for overall detoxification and cellular health.

History of conventional cancer treatmentsThere isn't a single person alive who hasn't experienced how a family member or loved one died because of cancer.
For myself this was most dramatically present in my mom and her sister who both developed breast tumors in the late 70s.
While my aunt chose to get treated conventionally, my mom chose the other path and went to a doctor who practiced an alternative diet-based therapy. In the end both died, my aunt of breast cancer, and my mom of a massive heart attack when her (then considered) atypical symptoms were unrecognized in hospital.
Since then I've been watching with both disgust and admiration how science has ben progressing. Disgust because conventional science kept ignoring the positive impact alternative medicine, along with diet and lifestyle can have on health. Admiration because of the major advances that have been made using ever less disruptive and dangerous approaches.
While it sometimes may seem as if cancer is a modern disease, nothing could be further from the truth. Cancer occurrences have been noted throughout history.
Good and bad estrogensEstrogen has long been considered a risk factor for a variety of women’s cancers, especially breast cancer. In fact, the risk of breast cancer has been shown to increase with the number of premenopausal years, when estrogen levels are highest. Research has shown that natural estrogens can also be classified as “good” or “bad”. For example, 16a-hydroxylated (“bad”)estrogen metabolites have stronger estrogen activity and are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, while 2-hydroxylated (“good”)estrogen metabolites are weaker and are not associated with increased risk of estrogen positive cancers.
What is DIM?Did you know that the unassuming broccoli or those mounds of Brussels sprouts may hold the answer to preventing breast cancer?
These types of foods fall into category know as Brassica vegetables, all of which contain a plant compound that has been known to detoxify excess estrogen and work to prevent hormone-related cancers. When you eat these veggies, the chewing process releases plant enzymes, which in turn create a phytochemical known as indole-3-carbinol (I3C).
Detoxify your bodyA lot of people start the new year with resolutions and often, one of these resolutions is doing a 'detox'. Detoxification involves the removal of toxic substances from the body. Detoxification occurs mainly in the liver, but the kidneys, bowels and skin are also important when it comes to clearing toxins from the body.
Hormonal balance in the menopause
Even the healthiest woman can run into hormonal problems when she enters menopause: once perfectly balanced hormones like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are now produced in decreased quantities and cause problems such as the almost innocent hot flashes. Extreme estrogen dominance however, can also lead to formation of cysts in breast and uterine tissue.
