Fem - Jarro-Dophilus Women 5 billion 60 capsules - 4 clinically tested shelf-stable Lactobacillus strains | Jarrow Formulas
Jarro-Dophilus Woman can be seen as a worthy successor of Shelf-Stable Fem Dophilus with no less than 5 billion viable organisms!
Jarro-Dophilus Women 5 billion 60 capsules contains 4 clinically documented and patented probiotic lactobacilli vaginal strains, including H2O2 producers isolated from healthy women that promote optimal vaginal microflora
- Lactobacillus crispatus LbV 88
- Lactobacillus jensenii LbV 116
- Lactobacillus gasseri LbV 150N
- Lactobacillus rhamnosus LbV 96
These lactobacilli are the prevalent and dominant species of healthy vaginal microbiota that promote urinary tract health.
Documented lactobacilli species present in Jarro-Dophilus Women acidify the vagina by producing H202 and lactic acid, lowering vaginal pH and together promote normal vaginal flora and a healthy microbial environment.
Probiotics support for vaginal health
Purchasers of other Jarrow Formulas probiotic products are aware of the many health benefits that can be experienced from supplementing with beneficial bacteria, i.e. probiotics. For instance, Jarro-Dophilus EPS is designed to boost the natural “friendly” bacteria of the gut by supplying beneficial strains that are needed to maintain a healthy intestinal environment. Jarro-Dophilus EPS is a compatible blend of friendly bacteria designed to promote intestinal balance.
Restoring the balance of microorganisms to the gut both helps to crowd out unwanted organisms and promote proper immune response, as well. Less well known is the fact that special strains of probiotic bacteria also contribute to vaginal health.
Women with an unhealthy intestinal microflora profile are at a higher risk of developing urogenital infections. Fortunately, scientific findings indicate that supportive microflora that can colonize the vagina play an important role in maintaining health. This suggests that the daily ingestion of certain probiotics may also provide a natural, safe and effective means of balancing microorganisms in the vaginal tracts. Clinical research supports the proposition that proper use of oral probiotics can do just this.
Oral probiotics influence vaginal floral balance
Clinical trials have found that oral intake of probiotics can significantly and beneficially affect the balance of vaginal flora. However, only certain probiotics can provide this benefit. Direct comparisons have demonstrated that the probiotic species and strains must be carefully selected in order to promote vaginal health.
Jarro-Dophilus Women does not require refrigeration and can be stored at room temperature. Refrigeration will, however, extend the shelf life. Avoid temperatures above 25°C).
EnteroGuard® is a proprietary cellulose-based, food-grade, pH-sensitive enteric coating that resists stomach acid and disintegrates in the less acidic pH of the upper intestines. EnteroGuard® ensures that nearly 100% of the probiotics pass through the stomach unharmed and are released in the intestines intact and ready to act.

The Most Effective Probiotic for Women’s Health
When women desire a probiotic specifically designed to match women’s needs, it is important to look beyond probiotics that are intended to address other issues. Simply put, most probiotic formulas calling themselves a “Women’s Formula” are not one.
They are the same strains these companies use in their other probiotic formulas and have no clinical data for women’s vaginal and urinary tract health.
Jarro-Dophilus Women contains four clinically documented probiotic Lactobacilli strains: L. crispatus LbV 88, L. jensenii LbV 116, L. gasseri LbV 150N and L. rhamnosus LbV 96 that have been clinically tested and are covered by European and US patents. The strains were originally isolated from the vaginal tracts of healthy women and clinically tested for efficacy in helping to maintain protective, native vaginal flora. They are the prevalent and dominant species of lactobacilli found in healthy vaginal microbiota. This patented product is manufactured in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facilities under strict quality control to ensure potency and consistency.
Documented Strains Matter
Clinical trials have examined whether probiotics taken orally can influence vaginal floral balance and urinary tract health and, likewise, whether all probiotics have such benefits. The answer to the first issue is that, yes, an intake of probiotics as an oral supplement can significantly and beneficially affect the balance of vaginal flora. The answer to the second is that only certain probiotics can provide this benefit. Direct comparisons have demonstrated that the probiotic species and strains must be carefully selected in order
to significantly and beneficially influence vaginal health.
Lactobacilli For Vaginal Health
Lactobacilli are essential for keeping the vaginal flora healthy. Under certain circumstances, normal resident lactobacilli may be lost. Because the intestinal tract functions as a reservoir for vaginal probiotic lactobacilli, oral supplementation of lactobacilli helps to maintain proper vaginal flora and promote urinary tract health. The normal vaginal milieu of adult women has a pH of 3.8 to 4.4, and this environment is maintained by the vaginal microbiota predominantly consisting of lactobacilli and of transient and commensal anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and species common with skin and intestinal microbiota. The documented lactobacilli found in Jarro-Dophilus Women help acidify the vagina by producing lactic acid, which lowers vaginal pH and H2O2, and together promotes the normal vaginal flora. Diminished lactobacilli, elevated vaginal pH, reduced H2O2, antibiotic use, and a weakened immune systems can cause recurrent microbial imbalance.
In a study in 319 women visiting an adolescent medicine clinic and 2 other clinics, most women’s normal vaginal bacterial residents included Lactobacillus (L.) crispatus (32%), followed by L. jensenii (23%), L. 1086V (15%), L. gasseri (5%), L. fermentum (0.3%), L. oris (0.3%), L. reuteri (0.3%), L. ruminis (0.3%), and L. vaginalis (0.3%).
Colonization by L. crispatus or L. jensenii was associated with a lower frequency of vaginal complaints in US American women. L. crispatus was also the predominant vaginal lactobacillus, followed by L. gasseri, in 49 healthy Japanese mothers and 64 pregnant women who visited a prenatal clinic in Gifu.
In 132 pregnant women at 35-37 weeks of gestation attending Ghent University Hospital, Belgium, L. crispatus was the most frequently isolated Lactobacillus species from the vagina (40% of the subjects were positive), followed by L. jensenii (32%) and
L. gasseri (30%).
Out of 200 Austrian women in the late first trimester of pregnancy without clinical signs of vaginal infection, 126 women were found to have a normal vaginal microbiota based on Gram stain. In these women the most frequently occurring species were Lactobacillus crispatus and Lactobacillus gasseri, followed by Lactobacillus jensenii and Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
Thus there is epidemiological evidence that dominance of L. crispatus,L. jensenii, L. gasseri and L. rhamnosus is characteristic of the vaginal microbiota of healthy women.
The vaginal flora lactobacilli are referred to as the Döderlein bacilli, which is the category of the Astarte® strains in Jarro-Dophilus Women. The Döderlein bacilli are well known to maintain the acidic vaginal milieu to produce H2O2. The lactobacillus strains in Astarte® were isolated from healthy pregnant women in late first trimester of pregnancy.
This combination of lactobacillus strains has been tested in a double-blind randomized trial in 60 subjects. Oral supplementation with these strains resulted in improvement of vaginal lactobacilli microbiota. Similar positive results have been found in other trials.
The Jarro-Dophilus Women Difference
Jarro-Dophilus Women provides the clinically tested Astarte® strains which are protected by European and US Patents.
Astarte® is owned by HSO Health Care GmbH, Vienna, Austria, and licensed in the U.S. to Jarrow Formulas, Inc. Other international patents pending. (Sold worldwide as Astarte.) Oral ingestion of the strains of Astarte® increased lactobacilli and supported measures of vaginal health in clinical trials.

How to get in enough fluids and not feel embarassedWhomever is interested in health and fitness will have been told countless times to drink enough fluids to stay healthy!
What they never tell you, is how to combine drinking plenty fluids with being out and about on the road or stuck in a place where you aren't allowed to take potty breaks! Yikes!
I can't even begin to tell you the amount of times when I was cycling some event and needing to pee so badly, but not find a bush to hide behind. Or, when I did see one, already have gone past it, and of course you never ever turn around, but pedal onwards.
Oh, how I envied my shameless male companions, who simply could get off at a tree and empty their bladder.
But even men encounter a problem when it comes to what is called, doing a 'number 2'.
Dangers of antibiotic resistance
Anyone who has followed the health news for a bit, will know there is widespread fear about antibiotic resistance spiralling out of control.
Ever since penicillin, the first mass-produced antibiotic was introduced in the 1940s, bacteria have become resistant against antibiotics at an alarming pace.
Antibiotics are considered one of the greatest advances in medicine because they prevented a lot of casualties after formerly uncontrollable bacterial infections. Unfortunately, many individuals seek this prescription as the first line of defense. Overprescribing them has in turn resulted in the development of resistant bacteria. These bacteria don’t respond to the antibiotics like they might have in the past.
